'Summer dining at The Catch is so very cool and ultra fresh'.
Summer is here and, with it, the urge to escape the heat, leave the house and venture to the shore in hope of finding that perfect sea breeze. Which is exactly what TEMPLE did on Wednesday night, having been invited to taste the latest offerings of the very cool and ultra fresh, The Catch at Hilton Malta
Located on the edge of Portomaso, the sun and sea panorama in early evening is spectacular on its own. Add in the anticipated culinary pleasure of The Catch’s innovative and exciting menu and our appetite was truly whetted.
On arrival, we were ‘serenaded’ into the restaurant by the dashing saxophonist and his evocative music, chosen to complement the magnificent backdrop of the Mediterranean and the Portomaso Marina views.
We floated to the bar and opted for the signature Merkanti cocktail: a refreshing mix of gin infused with lemongrass. It was the perfect palate teaser, especially with the selection of lovely little morsels on offer. These were so good, they had you following the very fashionably clad waiters for more!
After a few drinks and light-hearted chat, we sat down at sleek white tables, dressed with light blue runners; this lovely nautical touch is oozing with elegance whilst giving the restaurant that relaxed summer ambiance one looks for by the sea.
A fresh fish display brought glorious colour to the restaurant and, behind it, Executive Chef Eddie Sharkey was proudly offering the most delicate selection of tuna belly and octopus carpaccio as a starter.
A trio of exquisitely cooked fish was served. Barracuda, Swordfish and Bigeye Bream, all caught fresh earlier that day, surrounded by creamy potato purée, steamed asparagus and Pak Choy. The meal was excellently paired with crisp, New Zealand Villa Maria, Sauvignon Blanc.
Chef Eddie, brimming with pleasure over the fantastic evening, called on Chef Otis, Executive Pastry Chef at Hilton Malta to present the dessert for the evening.
An intense, bitter-chocolate mousse with pistachio and olive oil cake bites, sweetened with icy raspberry sorbet was a mouthful of delight. The medley of flavours produced a wonderful finish to an already flawless meal.
We left feeling refreshed and with our foodie urges completely satisfied knowing that summer evenings have never tasted so good.
