5 reasons to spend your weekend in Malta’s sister island, Gozo in Winter

Now that we are in the beginning of February, we have compiled five of the best things to do in Gozo during this period. Traditionally known as a Summer destination, we believe there is still much to do during Winter when visiting Malta’s sister island.

1. It offers a relaxed environment

Traditionally, Gozo has always been known to offer a relaxed environment. Gozo has a relaxed pace of life and its own kind of rhythm. Therefore, it offers an excellent getaway for anyone having a busy lifestyle during their working week. Even more so, given that Gozo is regarded as a Summer destination, the island is much quieter during the Winter season. Getting to the island is easy. It is only 25 minutes away by ferry from Cirkewwa, or in about 40 minutes by fast ferry from Valletta.

2. Delicious Food

In recent years, Gozo is certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to Restaurants. The island is known for its own type of delicacies, such as the traditional Gozo Ftira and the Gbejna.

Our personal favourite restaurant in Gozo is Vini and Capricci by Abraham’s (LINK), offering a wide selection of wine and spirits, local and from all over the globe, a large selection of Gourmet food and delicacies.

3. Explore Different Views and Areas

Most of us tend to visit Gozo only during the Summer period. However, Gozo’s Natural beauty is stunning during Winter Months.

Such a picturesque environment calls for outdoor hikes with a loved one or a friend, whereby one could enjoy different locations such as Wied il-Mielaħ, Wied il-Għasri, Ħondoq ir-Rummien, Ix-Xatt l-Aħmar, the Surrounding areas of Ta’ Pinu Shrine, Dwejra area, and more.

4. Visit different villages

Being quieter than Summer means that you can enjoy going around the village cores of this small and traditional island. One can safely say that every village in Gozo has its own personality. As you wander around the Gozitan villages, you will be able to visit exquisite churches, quaint chapels, and admire the traditional neighbourhoods in their quiet bliss.

Complete your tour around the Gozitan villages by not missing out on some Gozitan snacks offered in traditional cafes around the island.

5. Luxurious Stays and Accommodation

Gozo is home to several luxury hotels and accommodation for any individual. If you prefer resorts, the best locations include Kempinski and Hotel Ta’ Cenc (LINK).

Our personal favourite is, of course, Cescas. Offering a unique experience to holidaymakers that wish to live and enjoy the local lifestyle
